How to distinguish between active calcium carbonate and modified calcium carbona

Addtime:2026-06-30 Click:-

Combined with your previous background of using calcium carbonate to replace titanium dioxide and adapting it to downstream scenarios like rubber and coatings, the two are essentially in a ‌containment and contained relationship‌, and can be quickly distinguished through practical identification methods:

Basic Attribute Differentiation‌

Modified calcium carbonate is a general term for all calcium carbonate products with artificially optimized properties, belonging to a broad category concept. Activated calcium carbonate is a mainstream sub-category of modified calcium carbonate, specifically referring to products that have undergone lipophilic activation treatment. All activated calcium carbonate falls into the category of modified calcium carbonate, but not all modified calcium carbonate is activated calcium carbonate.

Practical Identification Methods‌

Take a small amount of sample, stir it in clean water. Most of the activated calcium carbonate will float on the water surface, and the water remains clear without turbidity. Ordinary modified calcium carbonate (such as products only processed for particle size refinement) will sink into the water in large quantities, making the water obviously turbid.

Activated calcium carbonate powder has excellent fluidity similar to liquid, while ordinary modified calcium carbonate has much poorer fluidity with more obvious particle agglomeration.

Component Parameter Differentiation‌

The content of organic active agents in activated calcium carbonate is usually 1.0%-5.0%, so the main content of calcium carbonate is 1%-5% relatively lower. Other types of modified calcium carbonate hardly add organic active agents, and their main calcium carbonate content is higher.
